Good morning people.
I have a story, as usual.
I once led a choir and a cell group. There was a young man among us (choir and cell) that was involved in a business that he did not really understand. One day, I told him to stop the business, focus on his area of strength, get some more education and then he could engage in the business. He told me that he had a dream where he was told to start the business. I counselled him on a couple of issues too but I could see that he didn't quite agree with me. I kept my peace and decided to address his matter with prayers.
Afterwards, he got involved in a deal that took a lot of his time and money. He lost a lot of money due to his lack of understanding of how the business works. Finally, he came back to me to tell me that he agrees with what I told him initially. He claimed he had another dream where a man of God prayed for him and told him what to do. I just wonder why he had to suffer such losses before learning..
A good number of people have taken critical decisions based on dreams (the ones you have while sleeping). Some have married their spouses because of their dreams, some have ventured into businesses because of dreams. Some have moved into homes based on dreams, some have ended relationships because of dreams. Joel 2:28 talks about old men having dreams and young men seeing visions after the outpouring of the Spirit. Therefore, dreams and visions are legitimate means by which God communicates with us, His children.
However, we need to be careful when dealing with dreams and visions. There is a portion of the scriptures (I'll share the actual reference as soon as I can) that talks about dreams coming as a result of the day's business/busyness. You shouldn't make lifelong decisions just based on dreams/visions alone.
Some people are in abusive relationships today because of dreams; some have severed godly relationships because of a dream. I believe that when you have such dreams and visions (or if someone else tells you about their dreams/visions that concern you), prayerfully study what God's Word say about the subject matter. Scrutinize every dream and vision. Don't go eating snakes or grass or drinking petrol (as costly as it is) because a "man of God" asked you to. There is nothing in the scriptures that support such.
In John 10:14, Jesus Christ says that His sheep know Him. In verse 16, He says that His sheep listen to His voice. In verse 4, He says the sheep follow the shepherd BECAUSE THEY RECOGNIZE HIS VOICE. Unfortunately, a good number of believers don't recognize the Master's voice in our lives. We haven't taken the time required to fellowship with the Lord. A couple of us have made serious blunders.
The good news is that however far you may have gone in your own way or the way charted for you by another human being, it is never too late to change directions. It is time to learn the voice of the Holy Spirit (He is the One running the show in this dispensation) and to let Him lead you.
If you are yet to accept Jesus Christ as the Lord of your life, you are a step removed from being led by the Holy Spirit. Please send a message to the page and let's close that step. I'll share a prayer of salvation later in the day.
"All those led by God's Spirit are God's sons (and daughters" Romans 8:14
Have a blessed and productive day.
