Joshua and his filthy garments (1)

"Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him. The Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?”
Zechariah 3: 1-2
Happy New Year.
Joshua was the High Priest (not just a priest or a "regular" Israelite). He was Israel's chief religious official. He was the one to offer the yearly sacrifice that would atone for Israel's sins. He was that important YET he had filthy garments. Selah.
Men may not have known about Joshua's filthy garments but Satan was happy to accuse him. After all, he is the accuser of the brethren.
Thankfully, Satan's accusation wasn't the last that was heard about the matter. We're not told what the nature of the accusation was. Though we're not expressly told if Joshua was guilty as charged or not, I think we can safely assume that he was guilty (he had filthy garments). We're not told what steps Joshua took before he had to "stand trial". I guess he asked God for forgiveness? Whatever transpired in the interval, the MERCY OF GOD rose to his defence. The Lord rebuked Satan on his behalf. He didn't have to respond; MERCY SPOKE FOR HIM.
I pray that this year, MERCY will speak for you (Please repent and ask for forgiveness for whatever evidence Satan has against you). I pray that the blood of Jesus, that speaks better things than the blood of Abel will speak for you, in Jesus' Name.
